Jennifer Petrela is the Director of the Mentorship, Fellowship and Public Interaction programs. She comes to the Foundation after eight years as an editor for multilateral development banks and academic and government clients. Prior to that, she worked for five years in the corporate affairs arm of an international labour union in Canada and the United States. Jennifer Petrela has lived in Brazil, France, the United States and the Philippines. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in the history of the developing world from McGill University and a Master's of Science in environmental health from Université de Montréal.

    The 12th edition of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Summer Institute took place this year from 7 to 11 May on beautiful Treaty 1 territory, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Designed to help Foundation community members refine their understanding of Canada and its dynamics, the Foundation’s institutes gather some 100 scholars, fellows, and mentors in a different province or territory each year.

    On 6-7 May 2017 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation organized its first ever media training seminar to train scholars for interviews and to encourage them to disseminate their research in the media. Fifteen experts in journalism and communications shared their experience and generously provided useful tips on how to give a good broadcast interview, what reporters want to know from researchers, what are the best strategies of being visible online, etc.

    Every year since 2005, the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation has organized a summer institute, inviting all Trudeau scholars, fellows, and mentors to gather for five days of reflection and collaboration. The Foundation’s 11th Summer Institute be the first in Northern Canada and will run from 15 to 20 May on the territories of the Kwanlin Dün and Ta’an Kwäch’än First Nations in Whitehorse, Yukon.
